The “Crocus” holiday

2021-02-22

The Crocus bulb is grown widespread in this region, but did you know that the Crocus is not really a bulb strictly speaking, but a tuberous plant. Daffodils and Tulips are flowerbulbs. If you cut a bulb in half, you will see layers, just as in an onion.

A Crocus however is, likewise a Dahlia, a tuberous plant!

If you cut a Crocus in half, you will see a relationship to the potato. However the outside layer of a Crocus looks so similar to that of a bulb, that no one will correct you if you talk about a Crocus bulb!
