The flower region

My name is Cilene, I love flowers, I love looking at and experiencing pictures. I am, feel and act like a tourist. The beauty in our floral region never cease to amaze me. I want to share it with everyone who is as curious as I am. Hence this blog.

Look, enjoy and marvel just like me about all the beauty of this region. With every now and then a personal experience. Find out why this region should be called the Flower region ;-)

Greetings Ciléne

Every year I do visit the most beautiful garden in the world. Obviously this is Keukenhof! A lot of inhabitants of our region have never been inside this parc and that is a pitty. It is lovely!

Each time I visit the parc with somebody else. In the beginning I visited with my parents or kids. By the way, there is a lot to do for children. When they came along, they had a lot of fun. This year we were informed that Keukenhof was not going to be open..

It started in 2015, the idea of letting people know where the blooming flower fields are located.

At that time I was working as a office manager for the small tourist information office. Once it became spring, people started calling us with all the same question: "Where are the flower fields in bloom? Where are the coloured fields?"

A crocus bulb is planted in the Autumn, and flowers in February/March time. The midterm Spring school break is therefore often called “the Crocus holiday”. The flowering of the Crocus activates a Springtime “itch” early on in the season. There are over 80 varieties of Crocus, of which about 30 varieties are grown by horticulturalists.

She called me the other day. If I felt like a bicycle ride on an electrical bike. Criss cross this region, close to home, where the flowers are in bloom. So beautiful to see. Especially the Dahlias now coming up. She wanted to show the tourists these beautiful spots. "And also our inhabitants, the people who live here, sometimes don't even know the beauty of it! Let's show them." She says.

On here facebook page Bulb region will become Flower region you will see this as well.

What a lovely weather! So many nice flowers and colours and smells around us. The only thing we can do right now during this Corona Crisis is Stay at home. Everybody is experiencing these flower fields via internet.

To show the world these beautiful fields, my son and I are just going real quickly outside. We know the way. We know where the nicest flowers are in bloom right now. Just behind 'Westeinde' if you enter this road via the 'Schulpweg'.

Okay, so now we are three weeks in this Corona crisis and we are all staying in. We do not leave the house and spend most time in the garden and do not go (far) away.

Is is soo quiet! Actually, if you would not know the reason it is lovely. If it weren't such an awfull virus we could intensely enjoy this situation.

I do miss you!

How do I miss you!

At the same time, I am happy that you do not have to deal with the current situation. The Coronavirus, the concern about the Elderly, the economomy that is standing still. Yes, Health is still the most important thing in life.

Dear dad, a purple tulip for you..

As soon as we enter the property at the Loosterweg we do see 5 people standing at a table in het middle of the flower field. They are working with the flowers.

From the path, we shout: "Mister Zonneveld?" At the same time the 5 heads turn towards us: "yes! who is calling?"

Not so long ago a lady from Germany asked me a very strange question. “Where do the Gluhbirnen grow?” In a free map of the area with information about what to see, translated in several languages, she had read that in our Flower region “Gluhbirnen” were grown, English translation – “lightbulbs”. Unfortunately I had to disappoint her, we don’t grown lightbulbs around here, but of course we do have flowerbulbs. Our region is famous all over the world for our flowerbulbs.

Did you know that they named a flower after me?

‘Blond, long stalk and long lasting’ that is how my guy at that time described the flower that according to him should be named Cilene, because it reminded him of me. It was a new white Zantedeschia (calla) flower. So romantic, naming a flower after you, I couldn’t stop talking about it, until….. one of my colleagues remarked “A white calla, isn’t that a typical flower used for funerals?”
